At a Glance

The “how this server feels” in 30 seconds.

PvE First

Your main enemies are the environment, NPCs, and events — not other players.

Protection & Fair Play

We use systems to prevent griefing and keep progression chill and consistent.

Events Create the Action

Most combat happens in PvE events, monuments, and NPC encounters.

Respect the Community

No stealing, no harassment, and no “creative” loopholes to ruin the vibe.

Quick mindset shift
On Rusting Away, success is about building, progressing, and tackling PvE content — not player hunting.

Player Damage Rules

Can you hurt other players? Here’s the simple answer.

Generally

  • Do not kill or harass other players.
  • Don’t bait damage, lure threats, or force “accidents.”
  • Respect space and don’t interfere with builds or loot routes.

Important notes

  • If a zone/event allows special rules, it will be clearly communicated.
  • “But it let me” isn’t a defense — if it’s griefy, it’s not allowed.
  • If you’re unsure, ask before you act.
Not allowed
Any attempt to bypass PvE protections (traps, pushing players into danger, stealing during events, etc.) is treated as griefing.

NPC vs Player Combat

This is where the real action lives.

You’re encouraged to fight NPCs, zombies, bosses, and event enemies. Gear up, team up, and tackle content. The whole point is to create combat that’s challenging and rewarding — without players ruining each other’s progress.

What’s Allowed vs Not Allowed

The fastest way to avoid rule confusion.

✅ Allowed

  • Fighting NPCs, zombies, bosses, and PvE events.
  • Building bases (while following build rules: no blocking roads/monuments/waterways).
  • Co-op play, trading, and helping new players.
  • Claiming your loot fairly from content you participate in.

🚫 Not Allowed

  • Stealing other players’ loot (including “oops I found it”).
  • Griefing: trapping, luring NPCs into bases, blocking exits, pushing into hazards.
  • Harassment, toxicity, spam, or mic spam.
  • Trying to abuse protections, safe areas, or event rules to troll others.
Rule of thumb
If it would feel bad if someone did it to you, don’t do it here.

How Events Work in PvE

Events are the main “combat loop.” Play fair and everyone wins.

✅ Show up prepared
Bring meds, ammo, and enough room to carry loot back.
✅ Don’t interfere
Don’t sabotage other players doing the event (blocking, stealing, baiting).
✅ Share the vibe
Co-op is encouraged. If you join in, communicate and be respectful.
✅ Loot respectfully
If you didn’t participate, don’t scoop the rewards.
✅ Ask if unsure
Some events can have special rules. If unclear, ask staff first.
✅ Have fun
Events are meant to be the “big moments” — enjoy them.
Event etiquette
Stealing loot, baiting NPCs onto players, or trolling during events is treated as griefing and will be enforced.

Quick FAQs

The answers most people ask in Discord.

Can players kill players here?
Generally no. This is a PvE server. If a special zone or event has different rules, it will be clearly stated.
Can I take someone else’s loot if I “find it”?
No. Don’t steal. If it isn’t yours, leave it. If you’re unsure, ask staff.
What if someone is griefing me?
Take screenshots or clips if possible, then contact staff via Discord or the website contact page.
Are monuments safe?
PvE means players shouldn’t be your threat — but monuments can still be dangerous due to NPCs/zombies and events.
