Economy Basics (What We Use)

How money works here: earn rewards, spend in the shop, protect items with the bank.

Rusting Away’s economy is built around two main commands: /shop (spend your cash) and /bank (store wipe-safe items). You earn cash from doing pretty much anything thanks to our rewards system, so the focus is earning consistently and spending intentionally.

  • /bank — deposit/withdraw wipe-safe items

Note: We do not use /bal or /sell on Rusting Away.

What the Bank is (and isn’t)

  • Bank = item storage designed for monthly wipe protection
  • Bank is not a wallet — it’s for approved items you want to keep safe
  • Deposit valuables before wipe so you can withdraw after
Wipe-safe does not mean “everything”
The bank stores approved item types only. If an item can’t be deposited, it’s not eligible. When in doubt: test it with /bank.

Best Money-Making Activities

Beginner (easy + consistent)

  • Farm a simple loop (roads, barrels, monuments you can handle)
  • Recycle efficiently (less downtime = more rewards over time)
  • Build smart (organized base = faster resets between runs)
  • Do small events you can finish without dying

Mid game (best time/value)

  • Event rotation: chain events back-to-back instead of wandering
  • NPC content with reliable clears (bring meds)
  • Group runs (split roles, clear faster)
  • Better travel means more activities per session

End game (big sessions)

  • Hard events you can clear consistently
  • Boss-style content when you’re geared and stocked
  • Speed clears: the goal is completing more content per hour
  • Zero downtime (bring supplies so you don’t reset constantly)

Because cash is earned broadly, the fastest money comes from consistency: pick one loop you can clear cleanly, run it repeatedly, and spend only on upgrades that make that loop faster.

What actually slows your income

  • Dying repeatedly in content you’re not ready for
  • Wandering without a plan (low activity completion)
  • Buying “cool” stuff that doesn’t help you clear faster
  • Not prepping kits/supplies before you head out

  • When you have something rare/expensive you don’t want to risk
  • When your base is “done” and you’re thinking long-term
