Server Events

Events Guide: Convoys, Crashes, Bosses & More How to find them, prep fast, and cash out safely (PvE)

Rusting Away runs a LOT of events — and the best loot on the server often comes from showing up at the right time with the right kit. This guide covers the main event types (Convoy, Caravan, Plane/Cargo crashes, Bosses, Guarded Crates, Raidable Bases, and more), how to prepare, and which events are best for solo vs squads.

Difficulty: Beginner–Advanced (varies by event) Read time: ~8–12 min Goal: Participate more & win more loot

At a Glance

The short version: what events are, how they show up, and how to not miss them.

Events = PvE “hotspots”

Most events spawn NPCs + loot. Show up, clear threats, secure rewards.

Watch chat + map

Many events announce in chat and/or appear as a map marker. Keep an eye out while you roam.

Prep beats panic

Carry a “go bag” kit so you can respond fast without rebuilding your inventory every time.

Etiquette matters

PvE server = co-op vibes. Ask to join, don’t yoink loot, don’t grief someone’s run.

Why this guide matters
Events are the fastest way to gear up, stack resources, and stay busy between builds. If you’re “always broke,” you’re probably skipping events.

Event Types on Rusting Away

These are the big ones you’ll see regularly (and what they usually feel like).

1

Convoy (Convoy)

A moving PvE objective featuring armed NPCs and vehicles. Convoys reward players who can keep up, manage cover, and finish strong. Great for groups — doable solo with smart positioning and patience.

  • Expect: sustained gunfights, repositioning, chasing or intercepting.
  • Bring: meds, plenty of ammo, something for medium-range, and a way to move fast.
  • Tip: don’t face-tank. Use terrain, rocks, and distance.
2

Caravan (Caravan)

Another roaming-style encounter where timing matters. Caravans are often less chaotic than Convoys but still punish sloppy pushes.

  • Expect: guards, staggered waves, movement-based combat.
  • Best approach: intercept with cover, clear outer guards, then collapse carefully.
3

Plane / Cargo Crashes (PlaneCrash, CargoPlaneCrash)

Crash events create a clear “go time” moment: reach the crash site, clear NPC threats, and secure loot before it’s picked clean. These are excellent for solos if you arrive early and play smart.

  • Expect: concentrated fight around a single location.
  • Bring: quick-heal supplies, a ranged weapon, and something to hold angles.
  • Tip: drop a bag nearby before engaging so you can recover fast if you go down.
4

Boss Events (BossMonster)

Boss fights are high-pressure PvE with big payoffs. Bosses usually mean tougher NPC behavior, higher damage output, and a longer time-to-kill — so treat it like a “mini raid” on the environment.

  • Expect: heavy incoming damage, adds/guards, and extended combat.
  • Bring: serious meds, high-DPS option, and enough ammo to finish.
  • Tip: focus on staying alive, not speed-running. Dead players do zero DPS.
5

Bradley / Attack Heli Style PvE (Bradley, ImprovedAttackHeli, BradleyTiers, BradleyDrops)

Heavy events that reward planning: cover, distance, and sustained healing. If you’re undergeared, treat these as “watch & learn” until you can afford the kit and ammo cost.

  • Expect: high lethality, long engagements, and expensive resupplies.
  • Bring: strong armor, stacks of meds, and reliable ranged damage.
6

Guarded Crates (GuardedCrate)

“Hold the area” style event: clear the guards, control the space, and loot efficiently. Great mid-game event for solos and duos.

  • Expect: a defined perimeter fight.
  • Bring: something accurate + meds; use cover and peak carefully.
7

Raidable Bases (RaidableBases)

Event bases meant to be cleared for loot (not player bases). Difficulty varies a lot — start low, learn patterns, then climb tiers when your kit and confidence catch up.

  • Expect: defenders, traps, and “surprises.”
  • Bring: meds, building tools for quick cover, and enough boom if the base requires it.
8

Special/Extra Events (ExtraEvents, DungeonEvents, ArcticBaseEvent, WaterBases)

These are the “variety pack” events: dungeons, themed bases (arctic/water), and other rotating encounters. If you see one you haven’t tried, go once with a safe kit and learn it.

  • Expect: unique layouts, gimmicks, and sometimes tricky pathing/angles.
  • Tip: bring extra rad protection / warmth / mobility when the theme suggests it.
9

Zombie/Survival Pressure (NightZombies, ZombieHorde, ZombieHunter, WalkingDead)

These add “ambient danger” and occasional spikes in intensity. If you travel at night or fight long events after dusk, plan for extra PvE pressure.

  • Expect: surprise encounters, especially in low-visibility moments.
  • Bring: a dependable close-range option and enough healing to handle chain fights.
Pro tip: events stack
Sometimes you’ll run from one event straight into another (or fight extra mobs along the way). Always carry more meds/ammo than you think you need.

How to Prepare (Fast)

A simple “go bag” checklist so you can respond to events without rethinking your whole inventory.

The Go Bag (Minimum)

  • Weapon: something reliable at mid-range + a backup if you have it.
  • Ammo: enough for a long fight (events often last longer than you expect).
  • Healing: bring “too much” — running out ends runs.
  • Armor: whatever you can afford to replace.
  • Food/Water: don’t be the person starving mid-convoy.
  • Space: leave inventory room so you can loot without playing Tetris under pressure.

Quality-of-Life Adds

  • Mobility: something to move quickly (intercept roaming events).
  • Bed/bag: place one nearby before committing to tough events.
  • Tools: basic tools for quick cover and cleanup.
  • Looting speed: know where your “high-value” items go (so you can grab and go).
  • Backup kit: stash a second kit at base for immediate re-queue.
Use kits if you’re new
If you’re learning events, use a budget kit first. Once you can clear consistently, upgrade your kit to speed up runs and reduce deaths.

Risk vs Reward

Not all events are equal — choose based on your gear, mood, and how much time you have.

Hidden cost: ammo & meds
Even if you “win,” you can still lose value if you overspend ammo/meds. If you’re undergeared, pick mid-tier events until your economy stabilizes.

Solo vs Group Viability

Choose events that match your playstyle — or bring friends for the spicy ones.

Best solo starters

Guarded Crates, crash sites, low-tier Raidable Bases, and “learn runs” of new events.

Best duo content

Caravan, medium Raidable Bases, crash events you can lock down fast.

Group shines here

Convoy, bosses, heavy events (Bradley/Heli style), high-tier base clears.

If you’re solo…

Play slower, use range, reset fights, and don’t be afraid to disengage and re-peek.

Fastest way to get into groups
When an event pops: type a quick message like “Anyone want to run Convoy? I’m geared and heading there.” You’ll be surprised how often it turns into a squad run.

Event Etiquette (PvE Rules of the Road)

Keep it friendly, keep it fair, keep the server active.

Do

  • Ask to join if someone is clearly already running it.
  • Call out if you’re leaving loot behind (“I’m done, anyone want the rest?”).
  • Share roles in groups: one loots, one watches, one heals/holds angles.
  • Respect the run — if you didn’t participate, don’t scoop the prize.

Don’t

  • Loot-snipe the main reward while someone else does the work.
  • Drag mobs into player bases or grief routes.
  • Body-block or intentionally interfere with clears.
  • Start fights in chat over loot — just ping an admin if it’s serious.
Golden rule
If you wouldn’t want it done to you, don’t do it to someone’s event run.

FAQs

Common questions from players who keep missing events (or dying in them).

How do I know an event is happening?
Watch for chat announcements and check your map often while roaming. If you’re building for long stretches, you’ll miss the pop-ups. Consider doing short “event patrol” loops between base projects.
What should I do if I arrive late?
If someone is clearly already running it, ask to join. If it’s cleaned out, don’t hang around hoping to snag leftovers — rotate to the next event or farm to restock your go bag.
I’m dying a lot — what’s the quickest fix?
Downshift one tier. Run Guarded Crates / crash events / low-tier Raidable Bases until your healing rhythm and positioning improve. Most deaths are from overpushing and under-healing.
Are events solo friendly on Rusting Away?
Yes — plenty are. Start with contained events (crates/crashes) and low-tier clears. Roaming events like Convoy are harder solo, but still doable with patience, range, and smart resets.

Next Steps

Turn this guide into action with a simple weekly plan.

Your weekly “event loop”

1) Build a go bag kit. 2) Run 2 easy events to restock. 3) Attempt 1 harder event to level up. Repeat. You’ll be geared, rich, and confident by mid-wipe.

Want more event pings?
Be active in chat, ask when the next event is popping, and squad up. The more people run events, the more alive the server feels.
